Is there a way to tell which apps are associated with the old id? Or do I have to delete all my apps and start all over again?
I signed into my apple id, updated it with a new email address, deleted the old one from the account. Then I signed out of everything icloud, itunes, app store, on both my iPad and Macbook. Then signed back in with the newer email address. I still get the pop up with the older email address. Isn't it technically still the same account just a newer updated email address.

How do I link my new apple ID to my Ipad? Since I can't delete the old one, each time I try to make a purchase in the app store the sign in already has my old ID and I can't get rid of it.

You can reset an account's password via http://iforgot.apple.com
Or, and if you were the original purchaser of the device (i.e. it wasn’t bought used), you could try going to an Apple
Store (make a Genius Bar appointment if you do) or try contacting iTunes Support online (https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html) and see if they can remove the device from the account - they are likely to want to see proof of ownership before they might help e.g. original receipt with the serial number on it

If it's an AOL username account : AOL Usernames can no longer be used with the iTunes Store - Apple Support
If it's not, you could go through your existing account's purchase history to see which apps are linked to it, and delete the apps that aren't (assuming that you only downloaded each app on one account)

You can't delete an account, all you can do is remove any personal info from it (e.g. payment details : Change or remove your Apple ID payment information - Apple Support ; and turn off any subscriptions : View, change, or cancel your subscriptions - Apple Support) and stop using it (so delete all of its downloads)

I changed my Apple ID and iTunes payment but the old account I want to change on iCloud but can't because I have to log out of it but don't have a password or Key to do it. This has been going on over a month after going to Apple Store Genius Bar plus multiple reps over the phone with Apple.

With ? Anything that is downloaded from the stores is permanently tied to the account that downloaded it, if you no longer want to use an account delete its downloads, remove any personal info from the account, and stop using it

Apple totally *****, my main email is linked to an old Apple ID that is no longer in use, and now I can’t even use my main email with my new iphone and new Apple ID. Apple won’t let you delete the old Apple ID even with verification. I should have stayed with Samsung. 👎-1F3FD;👎-1F3FD;

or wait 90 days and then u can update them with ur new Apple ID. I had to that after I got divorced and got my own Apple ID for the first time. If u delete and re download, you will lose all your progress and content. ie) games or long term tracking apps, etc

Hi, Axeman1020. Thank you for your answer. How do I know which apps/songs exactly have been purchased with my old apple ID so that I can delete them? I don't even know my old apple id sign in details anymore, yet apple keeps asking me for my password for it.

If this is on an iOS device look at the accounts purchase histories, hopefully each item will only be on one of them. If you have them in your computer’s iTunes library you can do ‘get-info’ on them, that will tell you owning id.

You can not delete an Apple ID. It is asking for the password because you have an app on the devices trying to update that has been purchased on the old Apple ID. Purchases are permanently linked to the Apple iD that they were made on. To resolve this you need to delete the app and download/repurchase it with your current Apple ID.

It is possible to delete app ids that have not been used. See the 'More Like This' links on the right.
