This Homemade Dog Treats Recipe is quick and easy to make! With just 3 ingredients: peanut butter, carrot, and oats. They are so cheap to make and are healthy for your dogs too. And most important of all, dogs LOVE them!!

I've shared several homemade dog treat recipes because my dog Chickpea loves them! When I give her the option between store-bought dog treats and homemade, she always chooses the homemade treats. I think it's because the ingredients are so much fresher, there are no preservatives, and of course, they are made with love. ❤️

See how much she loves them!? ⬇️ Haha. Not only are these peanut butter dog treats a fave of Chickpea's, but they are SO affordable too. With just peanut butter, carrots, and oats, you can make an entire big bag of dog treats (about 28 medium-sized treats) for about $2.25. For a similar bag of dog treats bought at the store, it would cost around $16!

This dog biscuit recipe is made up of 3 simple ingredients that you likely already have in your kitchen: peanut butter, carrots, and oats.

Peanut Butter: make sure that the peanut butter you use is natural peanut butter. The only ingredient should be peanuts. Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol (which is poisonous to dogs). And do not use processed peanut butter that contains added oils, sugars, and salt. That stuff is basically frosting and is bad for our pups. Natural peanut butter is a great source of protein and healthy fats for our dogs as well as vitamins B and E, and niacin. I almost always include peanut butter in my homemade dog treats recipes because pooches just love it! It's also a great binder.

Carrots: carrot peels are rich in nutrients, so I don't bother peeling the carrots first. Then I just boil them to soften them. If you prefer, you can use frozen cooked carrots (thaw them first), or canned cooked carrots. Carrots are high in essential nutrients, making them an excellent addition to a dog's diet. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which supports healthy vision, and immune function. Additionally, the high fiber content in carrots promotes digestive health.

Oats:you can use whole oats, 1- minute oats, or instant oats, as long as there aren't any added sugars or other ingredients. Oats are very healthy for our pooches as they are high in fiber, and contain vitamin B, and omega-6 fatty acids among other good nutrients.

How to make Peanut Butter & Carrot Homemade Dog Treats:

Preheat your oven to 300F (150C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Add the carrots to a medium pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until fork tender, 5 - 10 minutes. Drain the carrots.

Add the boiled carrots along with the oats and peanut butter to a food processor and mix well until the carrots and oats are broken down and a soft sticky dough forms.

If your homemade dog treats dough is too wet, add more oats. If your dough is too dry, add more peanut butter or carrots.

Remove from the food processor and place the dough on a sheet of parchment paper. Place another sheet of parchment paper on top, use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to about ½ inch (1.3 cm) thick.

Cut the dough into treats. I used this bone-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the treats but you could use any cookie cutter, or just cut them into squares with a knife or pizza cutter. Gather any dough scraps, and reroll to make more treats.

Bake the homemade dog treats for 35 - 40 minutes, until the treats are dry and lightly browned on the bottoms, (they will still feel soft when first removed from the oven). The treats will get a bit firmer once they are cool. Let cool before giving one to your pup. Store in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or I like to store them in an airtight container in my freezer which makes them firmer and makes them stay fresh for a long time.
